History of Puerto Rican Coffee

During the time of the Spanish ruling of Puerto Rico, coffee was first brought as a small cash crop from Martinique and used to be distributed at a local level. The most productive areas for coffee are Lares, San Sebastian, and Las Marias which lie to the northwest of the central region of the country.
