Organic Coffee

Contents

Organic coffee is a type of coffee that is grown in certain controlled conditions including strict no-usage of chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. Instead, other farming methods are used to grow coffee beans like shading. Organic coffee is often certified by supervising bodies, the most important being USDA, an agricultural department in the USA that checks whether organic practices are being followed diligently. For a coffee to be certified as organic, it has to be grown in organic conditions and score at least 95%.

Organic coffee farmers do not make use of any artificial products to protect the crops against pests and diseases, remove weed, or increase the yields and fertility. The batch is labeled as organic only if no forms of chemicals have been used for its production in the past three years.

#6 CoffeeAndy - Peak Performance High Altitude Organic Coffee. No Pesticides, Fair Trade, Non GMO, and Beans Full Of

Peak Performance High Altitude Organic Coffee. No Pesticides, Fair Trade, Non GMO, and Beans Full Of Antioxidants! Medium Roast Low Acid Smooth Tasting USDA Certified Organic Ground Coffee 12oz Bag

  • FAIR TRADE - USDA CERTIFIED ORGANIC - SINGLE ORIGIN - HIGH ALTITUDE. IF WE COULD MAKE THIS COFFEE ANY HEALTHIER WE WOULD! MEDIUM ROAST. ALSO COMES WITH FREE SPECIAL REPORT CALLED "HOW TO MAKE THE HEALTHIEST CUP OF COFFEE"
  • Healthy Coffee Rule #1) Always Go Organic. Why? Because conventional coffee is one of the most heavily treated crops with pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. One of the many health risks with these chemicals is that they can act as "xenoestrogens" in your body disrupting hormone balance for both men and women.
  • Healthy Coffee Rule #2) Coffee Grown At High Altitude Is Better. Why? Because the higher the altitude the coffee is grown at, the denser the bean. You may have heard the term "Strictly Hard Bean" (SHB) which denotes an especially dense, high-altitude coffee. This Peak Performance Organic Coffee grown in the Guatemalan Highlands is a perfect example of this. This higher elevation bean is more dense and thus of a higher quality grade. High Altitude Coffee also tends to have more antioxidants!
  • Healthy Coffee Rule #3) Single Origin Coffee Is Better. Why? Because while "Blended" Coffee like a "Breakfast Blend" might sound cool... there's a much higher likelihood that at least one of the bean varieties that went into that blend was contaminated (coffee has been commonly known to be contaminated with energy robbing mold), meaning the entire batch is now contaminated.
  • 100% HAPPINESS GUARANTEE - TRY PEAK PERFORMANCE ORGANIC COFFEE COMPLETELY RISK FREE. We are so confident that you will feel the difference and LOVE Peak Performance Coffee, so if you aren't COMPLETELY satisfied for any reason you are completely covered with a 100% SATISFACTION GUARANTEE! Organic Coffee

Production of organic coffee

About 75% of the total organic coffee produced around the world is sourced from Latin American countries. Some also come from African countries like Ethiopia and Asian countries like Indonesia.

In 2010, Peru was the leading organic coffee producing country, with more than 423,000 bags being exported each year. Mexico and Honduras produced 100,000 bags each year. Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, and Guatemala were also great organic coffee producers.

In Latin America, organic coffee farming is very promising. Because of its increasing demand, investors began offering financial help with affordable interest to coffee farmers to boost organic coffee production. Initially, organic coffee farmers began embracing conventional farming.

Conditions for selling organic coffee in the US

Any coffee that is being exported to the US and labeled as organic, a certification must be produced as proof. The farm where the coffee has been produced should not have been in contact with any form of synthetic pesticides or other chemicals for at least three years.

There is a lot of difference between organic coffee crop and a conventional crop. Most coffee plantations adopt the crop rotation system, which is a sustainable system of growing coffee crops and prevent soil erosion and loss of fertility and nutrients in the soil. It is also a natural pest-control environment.

Environmental standards for organic coffee certification

Certain standards have been put forward to make sure that the coffee has no traces of artificial products that can prove hazardous to the health of the consumers. Also, the fact that coffee is grown in an eco-friendly environment is additionally promoting biodiversity.

Traditionally, farming practices that were done at a certain point in time were absolutely organic. With the help or organic coffee farming, the amount of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers entering the soil is also reduced.

Coffee that is grown naturally in the wilderness has the best quality because they grow in optimum conditions like fertile soils and high elevations, coupled with moderate temperatures and adequate rainfall. All these conditions ensure that the coffee plants reach maturity without any chemical boost.

How does the farming of organic coffee promote biodiversity?

In the case of organic farming, the overall farming conditions and the environment become strong enough to resist any type of plant diseases. Crops grown organically are mostly grown under the shades cover, which also helps in preserving the vegetative cover of the area.

Organic farming also reduces soil erosion by promoting a stable ecosystem. Birds thrive in large numbers in such favorable habitats and additionally devour insects that tend to destroy the plants. At the same time, their droppings help the plants get fertilized naturally.

The sad side of organic coffee producers

In order to get coffee certified as organic, there are certain costs involved that most cannot afford. In some regions of the world, farmers produce organic coffee, not because of choice, it is because they cannot simply afford to purchase synthetic farming products that can help them improve the quality and quantity of their crops. Even if they end up with the purest organic coffee, they cannot afford to pay the fees for yearly inspection of their coffee farms to have them certified as organic.

For this reason alone, coffee farmers are forced to sell their coffee under the inorganic label, thereby not being able to earn a good return for their products.

The worse is that there are many coffee farms that have been certified as organic, but in reality, they still make use of chemicals and pesticides. This is because it is impossible to determine this fact with just a single year inspection. Most ‘organic’ coffee farms might not even be 50% organic.

Advantages of organic coffee farming for coffee farmers

Organic fertilizers are one of the factors that determine whether a coffee batch is worth deeming organic or not. They lower the bulk density of the soil, reduce soil erosion, and increase soil fertility as well. The bottom line is that organic fertilizers not only help in the yield of the current crop but the next one as well. Coffee pulp is a very important nutrient that can be used as an organic fertilizer and put back into the soil after the peeling process. It is being practiced by most organic coffee farmers.

Some other materials that can be used as organic fertilizers are chicken manure, compost, and cattle manual. You can easily avail these things for free or very less amount of money. In some cases, you can also avail high-end organic fertilizers, but these would simply burn a hole in your pocket. So, it is better that you go for cheap ones because they will help in the future crop growth in the long run by replenishing the soil nutrients.

There is just one drawback of organic fertilizers. They release nutrients very slowly. At times, they may not even release nutrients when the crops need it. While it may lead to slow crop growth, it will improve crop production in the long run.
